Refreshing drinks in Spain are consumed in a 60% in the Hospitality Industry

The Soft Drinks Association is the business organization that represents this industry in Spain. Created in 1977, it brings together the majority of companies dedicated to the production and marketing of these drinks in our country.

In a recent study on the sector ( see PDF  ) reports on its main macro data at the level of production, sales and consumption. Among the conclusions, it stands out that the soft drinks sector consolidates the post-pandemic recovery and grows 15% in sales to exceed 4.3 billion euros.

The consumption of soft drinks in Spain is also recovering to pre-pandemic levels. In 2022, 4,357 million liters were sold, 10% more than the previous year, thanks to the tourism boom and the recovery of the hospitality channel, which is the main consumption channel of this category (60%). If we look only at the consumption of Spaniards, per capita consumption is around 47 liters per year, a reflection of the Mediterranean and social lifestyle that characterizes the country.

In fact, 8 out of 10 consumption occasions for Spaniards occur during moments of gathering and leisure in the company of family and friends. In addition, demand for low and calorie-free varieties increases, which already represent 60% of the supply of refreshing drinks in the market, with a growth of 4.4% in their consumption in the hospitality channel.
